Amen Jesus, Amen, and his Prophetic Worship: Passing by Nehushtan

Amen, Jesus. What does that mean?

In any usual talk of a recovery and re-awakening of Christianity, “Amen, Jesus” is not a point of contention and needed correction. We already know it what it means, and we have known it for millennia. That is our leaders, our scholars, our teachers, our guides — the place where such a re-awakening would start if it can start at all. Our problem is about applying it, not admitting that it’s true.

The problem we have in this admission is not innocuous by any stretch. What dominates and governs in our faith is Truth. It should be easy, but it seems the only way to get it into our hearts is to let the prophetic biblical reality hammer away at its doors. The only way to do this is to allow the fact of our hypocrisy to confront ourselves with respect to it.

Everything about Christianity is about the prophetic of Christ.  The more we pretend that we can handle and entertain its symbols as if they are not fundamentally prophetic when those symbols themselves state that they are, is our fundamental deception. That deception will not break unless we allow those symbols to break us.

So it is even with the smallest and what seems the most innocuous of little habits we do taken from the Bible, such as saying amen after concluding a prayer. It’s not piety to us when we use it, but far more common a condemnation.

Luke 16: The Unjust Steward

Jesus is two, not one

Jesus Christ is two: the person of Jesus and his credentials as Messiah, which refers to the Old Testament revelation of him, which he fulfilled. That is the whole of Jesus Messiah’s presentation of himself to the world and faith. Nothing less, and can be nothing more.

We take Jesus, the Person, in our worship happily, but the reasons we give for our faith need have nothing to do with this revelation. However, Jesus and that revelation are one. There is nothing we can do about it. Our choice in many ways is to minimize, split, relegate, deform, and demean Christ’s person by refusing to ground our faith in him as Jesus Messiah, prophesied, and historically fulfilled.

We are Christians, “followers of Messiah.” A Christian should be to be following a specialized Person and Old Testament/New Testament prophetic phenomenon. You can’t his follower and not the other, or else you say that you only accept half of him. But for some reason, it’s perfectly acceptable, without an offense and an insult to Christ, to be a Christian without knowing and being motivated in our faith by his prophetic revelation and only objective, impersonal reason for Him to a make claim on our hearts. This assumption is not just in the pew, it’s in the pulpit and the seminary and its universal.

We pray to Christ, to God, by concluding every prayer by “amen,” when this word is itself a prayer for God’s word to come true and an expression of faith that it will. Amen is αμην. The KJV translates this often as “verily.” Did you know that? Exactly, because the Church really wants you to use it, like it does all its Christian tropes, as a talisman, as something holy without having to prove itself holy. Something holy by use, by mysterious spiritual power invested in the symbol itself to transmit piety and holiness. I describe naïve, pedestrian, and pagan religion. However, amen remains an expression of affirmation of the truth of the statement declared.

Strong’s:

of Hebrew origin (543); properly, firm, i.e. (figuratively) trustworthy; adverbially, surely (often as an interjection, so be it):—amen, verily

In the Louw-Nida Greek Lexicon:

ἀμήν: strong affirmation of what is declared – ‘truly, indeed, it is true that.’ ἀμὴν γὰρ λέγω ὑμῖν ‘for I tell you the truth’ Mt 5.18; ὅς ἐστιν εὐλογητὸς εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνασστ ἀμήν ‘who is to be praised forever; indeed, this is true’ Ro 1.25; ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ὄψεσθε τὸν οὐρανὸν ἀνεῳγότα καὶ τοὺς ἀγγέλους τοῦ θεοῦ ἀναβαίνοντας καὶ καταβαίνοντας ἐπὶ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ‘I am telling you the solemn truth: you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man’ Jn 1.51.

In Thayer’s, emphasized is the word “fulfilled”:

at the close of a sentence; so it is, so be it, may it be fulfilled (γένοιτο, the Septuagint Num. 5:22; Deut. 27:15, etc.): Rom. 1:25; 9:5; Gal. 1:5; Eph. 3:21; Phil. 4:20; 1 Tim. 1:17; Heb. 13:21; 1 Pet. 4:11; Rev. 1:6, and often;

From where does this idea come?

The idea of biblical fulfillment should control our concept of truth, of assurance. But I don’t make this assertion by mere opinion. One need only examine the gospels where Jesus used this word amen, or literally “verily,” to prove this its prophetic context.

The first instance in the NT, marked in orange below, is clearly prophetic. If you don’t see it in the verse verses not so marked as clearly prophetic, read the immediate context. The verse has a prophetic emphasis when it or its content refers to prophecy, a prophet or prophets, an argument on prophecy, a future state or condition prophesied, generally speaks of fulfillment, states a prophecy already fulfilled or makes a prophecy set for fulfillment. I have inserted a short thing at the end of each verse that may not be obvious in indication of why it’s prophetic.

  1. Matthew 5:18 (KJV) For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. [It is more than significant that the first time we see the word “verily” or “amen,” it is[used to express the faith and certainty of the fulfillment of the Law and Prophets.]
  2. Matthew 5:26 (KJV) “Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.” [a future promise of judgment]
  3. Matthew 6:2 (KJV) “Therefore when thou doest [thine] alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have the glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward” [a future promise of judgment].
  4. Matthew 6:5 (KJV) And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites [are]: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward [same as above].
  5. Matthew 6:16 (KJV) Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.”  [same as above].
  6. Matthew 8:10 (KJV) When Jesus heard [it], he marveled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. [This is not praising “faith,” but prophetic faith. We don’t so follow through with this because we assume that the Roman officer was ignorant of the OT scriptures and the claims of Christ. A false assumption, since there were many Gentile proselytes taught in the synagogues].
  7. Matthew 10:15 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
  8. Matthew 10:23 (KJV) But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.
  9. Matthew 10:42 (KJV) And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold [water] only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
  10. Matthew 11:11 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
  11. Matthew 13:17 (KJV) For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous [men] have desired to see [those things] which ye see, and have not seen [them]; and to hear [those things] which ye hear, and have not heard [them]. [Refers to prophetic application and understanding]
  12. Matthew 16:28 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
  13. Matthew 17:20 (KJV) And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. [see Mat 21:21]
  14. Matthew 18:3 (KJV) And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
  15. Matthew 18:13 (KJV) And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that [sheep] than of the ninety and nine which went not astray [refers primarily to the joy of Christ with his people expressed in the eschatological Kingdom].
  16. Matthew 18:18 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
  17. Matthew 19:23 (KJV) Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
  18. Matthew 19:28 (KJV) And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
  19. Matthew 21:21 (KJV) Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this [which is done] to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. [Also, a statement of the prophetic principle in faith. The prophetic is God foreseeing the future and willing the future, which must surely come to pass. Faith is the believing of this with respect to all that the prophets had spoken about Christ].
  20. Matthew 21:31 (KJV) Whether of them twain did the will of [his] father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
  21. Matthew 23:36 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
  22. Matthew 24:2 (KJV) And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
  23. Matthew 24:34 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
  24. Matthew 24:47 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
  25. Matthew 25:12 (KJV) But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
  26. Matthew 25:40 (KJV) And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done [it] unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done [it] unto me.
  27. Matthew 25:45 (KJV) Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] not to one of the least of these, ye did [it] not to me. [The entire chapter and that previous is a prophecy of the future]
  28. Matthew 26:13 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, [there] shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
  29. Matthew 26:21 (KJV) And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
  30. Matthew 26:34 (KJV) Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
  31. Mark 3:28 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: [speaks of future judgment. The denial that Jesus is of the prophets is a blasphemy against the Holy Spirit]
  32. Mark 6:11 (KJV) And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

  35. Mark 9:12 (KJV) And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

  37. Mark 10:15 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
  38. Mark 10:29 (KJV) And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s,
  39. Mark 11:23 (KJV) For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
  40. Mark 12:43 (KJV) And he called [unto him] his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury. [putting in everything you have is not the giving of your whole substance to nothing, but for a particular spiritual reason. This is a figure for the proclaimed and expected change of complete religious devotion by faith in Christ of the prophets]
  41. Mark 13:30 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
  42. Mark 14:9 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, [this] also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

  46. Luke 4:24 (KJV) And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. [That is, because of familiarity, tradition, habit and sensual approaches to faith, the default pedestrian spirituality will not accept the Truth of Christ as the OT fulfillment, but only by those that love the Truth.]
  47. Luke 11:51 (KJV) From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
  48. Luke 12:37 (KJV) Blessed [are] those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
  49. Luke 13:35 (KJV) Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until [the time] come when ye shall say, Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
  50. Luke 18:17 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
  51. Luke 18:29 (KJV) And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake,
  52. Luke 21:32 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
  53. Luke 23:43 (KJV) And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
  54. John 1:51 (KJV) And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
  55. John 3:3 (KJV) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
  56. John 3:5 (KJV) Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
  57. John 3:11 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. [The “witness” is that Jesus of Nazareth is fulfilling the OT]
  58. John 5:19 (KJV) Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. [What the Father preordained for his Son is what the Son does].
  59. John 5:24 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
  60. John 5:25 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
  61. John 6:26 (KJV) Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.[Jesus is not saying that miracles are the proper route to faith, but only if they are prophesied and Messianic. Naturally, carnal motivations are not a part of faith, but only supernatural motivations, of which miracles are a part. But anyone can be said to be a miracle worker and proclaim that what he says about God is true. Only Messiah, however, can fulfill the Prophets and perform prophesied miracles. Faith in a claimant for Messiah by a miracle not foretold is also a carnal religious motivation. The context is the teaching of Jesus, not the miracle he performed.]
  62. John 6:32 (KJV) Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
  63. John 6:47 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
  64. John 6:53 (KJV) Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. [The flesh is the promise of Him by the Father, the blood is his prophesied death by piercing. If you don’t have those in you, if you don’t know and believe them, you are already spiritually dead]
  65. John 8:34 (KJV) Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. [A servant of the quintessential, crucial sin that leads to death. Servants die with their masters. The only sin you have to be first concerned about is the choice you make around the identity of Jesus].
  66. John 8:51 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
  67. John 8:58 (KJV) Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
  68. John 10:1 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.[The robbers are the false shepherds, the Pharisees, Sadducees, and Scribes, who push an essentially anti-revelational, anti-messianic faith by denying the preeminence of the faith of the Prophets, that the Prophets are not in process of fulfillment even when they are so right before their eyes by Jesus. The “Door,” Jesus, is the Person as well as the prophetic stream of scripture, which testifies of Him. Any other way of religious faith is corrupt, and their leaders are thieves and robbers of the exclusive property of Jesus Messiah].
  69. John 10:7 (KJV) Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
  70. John 12:24 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
  71. John 13:16 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. [Dont place yourself and a faith which is not based upon messianic prophecy above it, above Jesus and this his revelation. You are not greater than this, which sends you out to believe and more than Him to whom it exclusively applies].
  72. John 13:20 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. See above.
  73. John 13:21 (KJV) When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
  74. John 13:38 (KJV) Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
  75. John 14:12 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
  76. John 16:20 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
  77. John 16:23 (KJV) And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give [it] you.
  78. John 21:18 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry [thee] whither thou wouldest not.

Not one word of any of this is without reference at least indirectly to the oracular revelation of Jesus of Nazareth.

Conclusion

Look, do you call yourself a Christian? You are not a child, not stupid. You are an adult and are fully capable of admitting all this. Do you think it’s your diminishing by doing so? For what reason would you refuse? Look at that last verse. Do you believe that Jesus is only speaking here of the prophetically disembodied act of the crucifixion?

John 8:28-32 (KJV) Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am [he], and [that] I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. 29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. 30 As he spake these words, many believed on him. 31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Do you read that passage in Luke 4 when Jesus stood up in the synagogue and read the messianic prophecy of Isaiah 61 and think its for no particular reason? Think the religious in the scene that tried to kill him was doing it for no particular prophetic reason? Or that faith in Jesus, inversely, is for no particular prophetic reason but your feelings on the matter?

Messianic prophecy is not just some optional information. It is Holy, and while Jesus himself is gone, it is the old Holy thing left in this world. Stop the nonsense. Know the Truth. It will set you free.
